From 10 am-2 pm on December 24th, the Children’s Museum in Indianapolis is offering free admission.
Saturday, Dec. 1 ~ 10-6 ~ Dickens of a Christmas ~ highlights… a re-enactment of the last scene from “The Christmas Carol” (at Riehle Plaza), lighting the community Christmas Tree, flipping on the lights for the court house dome, Christmas carols performed live… and more! Barnes & Noble is having a Read-a-thon on Saturday, Dec. 8 from 10 am to 6 pm. Local athletes, trainers, and coaches will be reading aloud continuously during that time period… sooo kinda like an all-day long story time at the library.
A percentage of purchases made that day will be given to help supply books for children in the community.
The Purdue Wind Ensemble & Fall Concert Band will be performing in a free concert this Sunday afternoon (Nov. 18) at 2:30 pm at the Long Center (111 N. 6th St). I’ve been to a couple of their concerts before and they are usually outstanding in quality. Parking can be a bit tricky, though, so you may want to plan to be a bit early.
I’ve posted about Swagbucks before… using its programs and search engine is a fabulous way to earn gift cards online. They’ve also just recently added a new way to redeem some Swagbucks for coupons to places in your community. For 50 swagbucks, you can get a bogo coupon for a personal pan pizza at Pizza Hut, a 40% off coupon from Joann’s, $5 off of $50 at GFS, or another option entirely (there are several business listed!).

This study looks like it will take some time commitment over the next 11 weeks, but there’s a $610 check at the end of it, which is an outstandingly good amount for a Purdue study!

* it will involve 23 visits to Purdue over an 11 week period (although not during Thanksgiving or Christmas break)
* it’s a study about how food form and sweetener relate to hormones.

with Christmas break right around the corner, I know some families will be looking for entertaining things to do indoors with their kids. For something close to home, I highly recommend the Delphi Canal Museum; it’s free, for one, and the exhibits are fantastic. I blogged about it here.
Another museum I just read about, but haven’t had a chance to visit yet, is the Museum of Miniature Houses (and other collections). It’s in Carmel and is not free, although the costs are low, for a museum ($5 adults, $3 for children under 10, and they do have some very good membership deals). This looks like it would be perfect for a mother-daughter (or grandmother-granddaughter) outing!
